Abstract: On a positively biased electrode immersed in
plasma, a nearly spherical intense luminous structure
appears when the applied potential surpasses a certain
critical value [1,2]. Emissive probe measurements proved
that such a structure is a complex space charge
configuration consisting of a positive nucleus (positive
ion enriched plasma) surrounded and confined by a selfconsistent
double layer [1]. In certain experimental
conditions, if the electrode is large or asymmetric (with
one dimension greater than the others), a more complex
structure can appear, consisting of multiple luminous
spherical structures almost equally distributed on the
electrode surface because of the repulsive electrostatic
forces acting between them [36].
These structures were
called nonconcentric
multiple double layers [7] and can
appear successively at the increasing of the potential on
the electrode. |
