Abstract: The StonerWohlfarth
(SW) theory provide an intuitive geometrical method based on the switching critical curve,
method which can be used to establish the equilibrium position of a monodomenic particle’s magnetic moment for any
given external applied field.
In this paper we are investigating the possibility to extend the critical curve method for a SAF structure (synthetic
antiferromagnet), assuming that our system consists of two coupled StonerWohlfarth
particles. Our method provides a
geometrical method to investigate the magnetic field necessary to obtain a stable equilibrium state characterized by two
angles θ1 and θ2. For the calculus we have used a normalization of the magnetization, thickness and anisotropy constant of
one particle in relation to the other particle. Using similar consideration like in the StonerWohlfarth
model we have
obtained two astroids with centers positioned on two circles. The dimensions of both the astroids and the circles are
dependent on thickness, magnetization and anisotropy constants. Knowing θ1 and θ2, one can find the intersection of two
tangents to the astroids representing the orientation of magnetic field. |
