Abstract: In the 1780s, Euler invented network theory [1], for the
Königsberg Bridge crossing problem, but this subject
remained a form of abstract mathematics. Graph Theory
was born to study similar problems, including molecular
bonding [2].
Nowadays, many applications of graph theory exist
under the form of network analysis. An increasing
interest in the topics can be registered during the last
decade, particularly due to its potentially unbounded area
of applications. Indeed, the interdisciplinary
(or rather
transdisciplinary)
concept of “network” is frequently
met in all scientific research areas, its covering field
spanning from computer science to medicine and social
psychology. Moreover it proves to be a reliable bridge
between the natural and social sciences, so that the recent
interest in its application to economy is also fully
justified. |
