Abstract: The fact that we cannot see or fell radiation makes it difficult to understand it. The use of radiation trajectories shown on a personal computer (PC) should be useful to overcome this difficulty. The use of PC will be interesting for students and the study of radiation trajectories will become very effective way to understand radiation behaviour inside materials. Recently, two Japanese researcher from KEK (H. Hirayama & Y. Namito, 2001) have been developed EGS4PIC, a Monte Carlo system to show trajectories of photons, electrons and positrons in some simple geometries (cylinders and planes). Following the practical examples given by Hirayama and Nahito, we have developed a set of lectures notes for our students, especially for those with medical physics specialization. This work could be improved in the future by adding, for example, new materials, extending the energies range, passing at more complicated geometries and calculating more physical quantities. |
