Abstract: Nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) represents a subject of large interest for the master students especially for interdisciplinary master programs like „Biophysics and Medical Physics”. Specific applications on NMR phenomenon in the investigation of molecules of biomedical interest were considered in the frame of the proposed laboratory class.
The objective of the applicative lesson shaped in the next paragraphs consists in the utilization of nuclear magnetic resonance technique in order to provide information on the intermolecular interaction mechanisms between two chemical structures namely the tetracycline and the cyclodextrin. The main practical issue is related to the possibility to detect and to capture tetracycline molecules from the environment using cyclodextrin ability to host hydrophobic atom groups inside their ring.
Theoretical background that is needed in order to ensure the student interactive participation to the lesson:
- basic knowledge of nuclear physics, atom and molecule physics, chemistry and biophysics;
- computer skills and image interpretation. |
