Abstract: We live in a time when most of the children are attracted to computers, internet, school being left in the background. Real disciplines (biology, chemistry, physics, mathematics), which in the past year were in great demand, increasingly lose more ground against the social and human disciplines such as languages (useful for browsing the internet, for example). So for the real subjects to regain the lost ground, they should be taught in a slightly changed form, using possible interference among them. Physics teachers must reclaim their active role in areas like astronomy and earth science.
The purpose of this paper is to introduce the learning of some physics topics using the connections they have with certain subjects taught in the discipline of geography. The object I am talking about is entitled Earth Physics. The main objective is to make use of physical laws for explaining natural phenomena we see and we face daily (terrestrial magnetic field, gravitational acceleration, Earth movements), hoping that students interest for physics related subjects will increase. The interest of high-school students for interdisciplinary subjects is pointed out by their participation in "National Interdisciplinary Contest - Earth sciences " with its international correspondent "IESO-International Earth Science Olimpiad", which in 2009 reached the 3rd edition.
The work includes themes, planning and a portfolio. The portfolio includes general approach to issues and several practical works. |
