Abstract: It was an alarmed growing split between direct experience and abstract concept learning that had
become the daily routine in the classrooms. Starting from the principles of Learning Circles [1, 2], in the 2011 –
2012 scholar year it was initiated and developed the “Science and Life” Project in the light of cooperative
learning theory. This Science Learning Network is formed by a team of 10 teachers and 60 students from their
classes from “Ion Mincu” High School College from Vaslui and from “Elena Cuza” School from Solesti, Vaslui
and by a team of 10 researcher fom Faculty of Physics from “Alexandru Ioan Cuza” Iasi University.
Our paper presents the evolution in time of students’ science knowledge taking into considerations
attitude of the students related to science discoveries and related to modern and future technologies, the time
spend to prepare their presentations in order to accumulate science information development their technical skills
and evaluate the science communication abilities gained of the students. “Science and Life” Project proposes to
build, share, and express knowledges through a scientific process of open dialogue and deep reflection around
issues and problems with a focus on a shared outcome.
Learning circles take advantege of a social networking connection between very different and diverse
peoples. This kind of network is a highly interactive, participatory structure for organizing group work,
integrated with the classroom curriculum. Teachers acquired knowledge, developed new instructional strategies,
increased their sefl-esteem and developed professional and personal relationship with their peers. This kind of
activity helped students to develop the trust and respect for diversity of experience, and fostering both listening
and speaking skills among peers. Students are able to working in a collaborative setting with diverse coleagues
and teachers that gives them a wider perspectives on issue and a greather understanding of similarities and
differences. The collaborative work with other students provide a way to understands their’s expectations and to
have successful experiences regarding science communications pathways. Researchers have used learning circles
as a form of professional development to improve their practice. Working within a larger and very diverse
community provides direction and support to explore creative ways of integrating communications technology
into classroom.
The choosing of this course was stimulated and determinate by the relation between “Ion Mincu” High
School College and the Faculty of Physics from “Alexandru Ioan Cuza” University Iasi. |
