Abstract: The radiation doses in 20 organs/tissues have been calculated using the Monte Carlo code VMC-dc. This code uses a voxel anthropomorphic phantom to simulate the body organs and tissues, transports photons through this phantom and reports the absorbed dose received by each organ and tissue relevant to the calculation of effective dose. Eight radioisotopes (K-40, Co-60, Tc-99m, I-131, Xe-133, Cs-134, Cs-137, and Ir-192) have been used as gamma radiation sources and four
different irradiation geometries (point, cloud, ground, and internal source) relevant for accident dosimetry or nuclear medicine have been employed. Our results demonstrate significant variations of the effective dose and absorbed dose in internal organs when the radiation source and/or irradiation geometry is changed. |
