| Abstract: This work presents some preliminary results of an experimental study on a arc discharge plasma produced in
mercury vapours and used as light source supplied in ac current. In experiments successive (after switching on) dynamic
current–voltage characteristics of the discharge were recorded to illustrate reaching the typical arc behaviour, because the
phenomena at the cathode (which is becoming hot) play now a determinant role. Also, for plasma diagnostics, there have
been performed measurements of the relative intensities for a pair of lines from the mercury spectrum. This because, in
hypothetical conditions of local thermodynamics equilibrium (at our used discharge currents), the ratio of the intensities of
the two spectral line gives the temperature of the Hg arc discharge plasma. |
