Abstract: BaZr0.15Ti0.85O3 (BZT) ceramics were prepared by solidstate
reaction technique using nanometric precursors
of BaCO3, TiO2, and ZrO2. By sintering at three different temperatures: 1300°C, 1400°C, 1450°C, ceramics
with different grain size distributions were obtained. The phase purity was checked with XRay
diffraction
analysis and the differences in the microstructures were observed by SEM analysis. A better crystallinity and
higher tetragonal splitting is observed as the sintering temperature is increasing. The dielectric properties of
these ceramics were measured in the frequency range of 20 Hz 2
MHz and temperatures between (20,
150)°C and comparatively analyzed. A higher dielectric constant in overall range of temperatures and
frequencies was found for the ceramic sample sintered at highest temperature (1450°C). The dielectric
properties show some features attributed to local electrical inhomogeneities within the ceramic samples,
resulting in complicated dielectric relaxation phenomena. It results that BZT ceramics with the same
composition but sintered at various temperatures present variations of their functional properties, as due to
their different microstructural characteristics. |
