Abstract: The complex phenomena that occur at cellular and
molecular level within the visual cells are still partially
understood. The model organism Drosophila
melanogaster represents a very suitable investigation tool
for the researchers’ effort to elucidate the behavior of
human visual system since its well known genetic
plasticity offers the possibility of diverse new mutants
yielding for comparative study. Although it is an
apparently simple living being, D. melanogaster is
provided with an extremely well developed visual system
– as most of dipteran insects represented by it. Many of
the information obtained by studying D. melanogaster
could be extrapolated for the human visual system – even
its visual neuron are in smaller number and have limited
functions. The study of the eye electric activity recorded
by non-invasive methods (electroretinogram) is the
objective of the present work where some hypotheses
related to the molecular reactions occurring in the
photoreceptor cells are discussed based on experimentally
captured visual signal. |
