Abstract: Two magnetic displacement transducers have been produced and tested as examples of physical principles for further similar devices. The measuring domain of the transducers is within the range of 0.1 to 20 mm and is given by an output characteristic with limited portions of linearity. By “reading” a permanent micro-magnet's magnetic field the displacement transducers produce an electrical output that can carry information about the proximity of a target-object. The proximity – electrical signal translation is accomplished by using, in one case, a Hall-effect based transducer, and in the other one, a toroidal core manufactured from amorphous metal ribbons with two copper windings on it. |
