Abstract: This article provides an overview of new analytical and morphological applications of nuclear radiation in Computed Tomography. Several studies have now established the efficacy of PET (Positron Emission Tomography) and SPET (Single Photon Emission Tomography) in making a pictorial representation of physiologic or biochemical process as it occurs regionally within the brain. While Computed X-ray Transmission Tomography and Nuclear Magnetic Resonance offer exquisite anatomical and morphological detail, SPET and PET show functional and metabolic information, so these different imaging modalities are complementary. |
