Abstract: The specific design of the IORT accelerators, especially the long PMMA electron applicators, can significantly affect the characteristics of the electron beam with respect to the conventional electron beams. A simulation of these particular beams by Monte Carlo calculation is then expected to be useful to improve the accuracy of the beam dosimetry. Using the EGSnrc Monte Carlo code, BEAMnrc, we have simulated electron various beams produced by NOVAC7 IORT accelerator. The simulated electron beams are stored in phase-space files that contain details of each particle’s information at the phantom surface. The phase-space files are used as inputs in DOSXYZnrc code to calculate the depth-dose distributions along with dose contributions from various beam defining components.
