| Abstract: Several local bio-electrical rhythms occur in the integuments, i.e. the shell and shell membranes, of both fertilized and unfertilized eggs. The phenomenon has been found in more then 20 different species.The objective of this study was to analize by non-invasive electronic monitoring of egg integuments activity; with properly prepared electrodes. The bio-electrical fluctuations reflect the activity of an extracellular pacemaker.One important aspect of the investigated pacemaker is that it can be monitored without braking into the egg and that is why this method is a valuable one in diagnosing the physiological state of the embryo. |
