| Abstract: During the last decades, physics joint to many problems not traditionally associated to its own field of research. Using some statistical physics tools and the concept of self-organized criticality, we approach questions as the urban growth dynamics, the scaling of the urban perimeter and the population and area distributions of the Romanian system of cities and towns.
