Abstract: For years physics and chemistry have been involved in solving archaeological and geological problems. The chemistry of rocks contains information on a substantial part of Earth’s history and evolution. By using different radiometric methods we can obtain the absolute age for important events. Radiocarbon dating has been utilized for absolute age determination of animals and plants left as fossils in soil and sediments. The Electron Spin Resonance dating started from dating carbonate stalactites and stalagmites in caves. Shells, and corals (composed of the mineral part, 3 CaCO mostly microcrystalline aragonite or calcite), have been also used for dating with ESR. |
