Abstract: Precipitation is a major component of the local climate which, together with the temperature and wind, gives
geographical landscape distinctive features.
Precipitation distribution, intensity, frequency, as well as its type, show a pronounced time-space variability.
This is caused by many factors that determine the conditions of its formation: air temperature (which influences the
variation of the evaporation and humidity), atmospheric general circulation and its features in the lower and upper
troposphere; convection type (thermal or dynamic), baric and frontal systems; relief influence on the moving air masses
(föhn processes and orographic convection), etc.
Precipitation shows both daily and seasonal variations. They are classified according to the aggregation state,
formation mechanism, and type.
The present paper includes an analysis of the precipitation, by using daily records made at the Iasi Weather
Station, between 1980 and 2008, compared with the multi-annual average (by 100 years). One of the main conclusions
is that in the last three decades, the amount of precipitation has increased by nearly 30 mm/m2. |
